Here in Ravenna, whoever pays attention to the evolution of the Art of the Mosaic, strongly believes this particular, ancient artistic style can go through changes in order to become more valuable and noteworthy, even for the modern man. Our schools have always trained skilled and experienced operators, who have the characteristic of being very open-minded, as far as their creative approach is concerned. For example, Rosanna Fattorini's works soon come to my mind: the glazed tiles are not the only tools she needs, whenever she feels the urgency of creating her own mosaic: she'd rather turn to natural wooden blocks which are used as a framework and are carefully chosen on the base of their shape and color. The mosaic tiles, thanks to the brightness and transparency of their colours (whic are highlighted by the brown-bottomed wood), makes this primitive matter much more precious and refined; the tiles are spread through different and well-planned trajectories and directions, even more highlighted by an harmonic tangle of colours and shapes.
